| Hello,
I don't have bought a slk yet (but will soon!! )...
In Belgium, a NEW rule at the obligatory ANNUAL car inspection says that you need to have at least 110 mm ground clearance WITH driver. This is not for bodywork that can bend (like the bumpers usw.)
I will buy a slk 200k from 2000/2001 and I'm going to put 225/45/17 V and 245/40/17 H. Lowering with eibach 30 mm spring with 1-er gummi's V and H... Will I have 110 mm clearance?? I'm not too fat
Sorry that this is in English...
greetings from Belgium

| Your English is perfect! It is better than my German
What they do on the inspection is this: you have to drive your car over an 'obstacle' (Schranke) that is 800 mm wide and 110 mm high. If it passes, it is OK!! They allow that the bumpers can't go over it... but when your exhaust or another chassis part (fahrwerke?) touches the 'Schranke', it is PROHIBITED to the traffic... damn Belgium!!

| Gery,
if the SLK has the EWG-Übereinstimmungsbescheinigung it will be in accordance with the Belgian legislation for ground clearance and other specific regulations in Belgium.
In a side elevation I found in my literature the minimum ground clearance for the SLK is given with 127 mm, standard wheels and springs provided.

| Hi Gery,
as far as I understood your situation you're not shure wether you exceed the 110mm after lowering the car and mounting the new rims. If your garage changes the springs they could insert in a first step the highest available "Gummis" e.g. 4/5.
With this configuration you should pass the hurdle without any probs. Of course after this excercise you should ask your dealer to replace the "Gummis" again by the smallest available (1).
All the best an good luck with it.
Kind regards,
Mehi.

| Gery,
keep an eye on the exhaust system. The only problems with ground clearance I had after lowering my car was with the connections at the exhaust just before the "Katalysator" (whatever this is called in english). Unfortunatley it's a little bit difficult to measure there how much room is left...
Kind regards,
