I have rust on the inner part of the rear disc brakes, i.e. the part where the wheel is connected to the disc/axle. Also there is rust on the brake caliper and some of the wheel bolts are rusty. See also the pictures. We are talking about an SLK 280 of May 2006 and as far as I know in original condition, so no changes to the wheels or brakes. Is this rust normal? Does anyone know if it is covered by the "Gebrauchtwagen Garantie" ?
I doubt that the Gebrauchtwagen Guarantee will bear for this. As far as I know this is a pretty common problem. However the easiest way to get rid of it will be to just spray both parts with high temperature paint.. Of course the break disk and the break pad have to be covered.
After that you should face any further problems.
I know that this might not be the most satisfying answer in this matter, taking into consideration that we are running a premium manufacturer for cars which makes things like this pretty disappointing.
did you use acid aluminum wheel cleaner? That may explain the corrosion on bolts and brake calliper.

Hi,
I agree, that the fitted point...the pic shows only affected iron parts-typical for rims cleaner like sprays "Felgenteufel" and s.o.
For further washings please use only clear water and smooth cleaner..it's always better to clean your rims in time and my proposal is a protection with "Liquid Class".
I think you need new bolts when you don't want the rust styling anymore

I use "protech" rim cleaner which is a well known high quality brand here in the Netherlands but ............ I bought the car second hand so I don't know what kind of cleaner was used the 1st 16.000 km.
So I think I will buy new bolts and spray-paint the other parts with heat resistant paint. Since I use non-corrosive cleaners I hope it will stay OK after that.
About the advise to use Liquid Glass: My rims have already been treated by protech with some kind of teflon layer, with very good results!
